Tenant-Based Rental Assistance
Our patients can access quality, long-term housing with the help of our housing case managers. Our long-term housing options range from one year of rental assistance to permanent supportive housing options. Applications for long-term housing assistance through Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) are reviewed each month by a committee comprised of Central Indiana HIV service and housing providers. Damien Center is an active participant in the Indianapolis Housing Continuum of Care which prioritizes and selects patients for our Permanent Supportive Housing program.
Client applications for each of our housing programs are reviewed by a panel consisting of peers, Damien Center staff, and community housing partners to assess the needs of each applicant. Applicants must demonstrate true need and opportunities, potential, and plans for future self-sufficiency.
Direct Emergency Financial Assistance (DEFA)
DEFA provides short-term assistance with rent, utilities, incidentals, or other one-time emergencies like car repairs or glasses. Our DEFA committee meets twice monthly and is comprised of Central Indiana service providers as well as a client of Damien Center.
